The Church of the Queerly Beloved, or Culto Cuir, was born in 2023 from conversations with Queer/Trans and feminist activists and theologians across Latin America. Together, we asked: What does the spirituality that centers Queer and Trans bodies truly look like? What does the world we are fighting for feel like? What happens when we honor Queer spaces and name ourselves sacred and worthy of celebration beyond traditional religious settings? What happens if we let our creativity and curiosity take the lead?
What emerged from those conversations has grown beyond what we imagined. This work brings together political education and spiritual fortification. It is not just a container for individual healing, but a strategic space for imagination, experimentation, knowledge-sharing and alliance-building, where we cultivate spirits that resist domination. We are moved, again and again, by the fierce resilience of our people reclaiming what has always been ours: our bodies, our stories, our creativity, and our spirits.
